| Jean Ellaway - Soprano I was born in Pontypool where my first experience of singing was through the Chapel and local Eisteddfodau. My first singing teacher was Freda Fullard who started Gwyneth Jones on her distinguished operatic career, followed by Jean Adams at Pontypool Girls Grammar School. It was at school and later with Newport Operatic Society that I played the lead in a number of productions. After university I returned to Pontypool to teach where I met my husband who was a music teacher in the same school. I am still teaching in Pontypool now as head of department in West Monmouth Comprehensive School. Full time teaching and bringing up two children has not allowed much spare time but, since joining the Gwent Bach Society in 1974, I have managed to sing in nearly every concert. Occasionally I have had the privilege of singing solo parts with the choir, experiences I will always remember. Other interests of mine are listening to music, cooking, reading and walking. I have been walking Offa's Dyke in stages with Helen Middleton, another soprano in the choir. We have another 45 miles to go which we are aiming to finish in June 2005. |
