Past President of the Gwent Bach Society
Letter written by Paul Tortelier 1988

Nice, 24th November 1988

Dear Mrs Middleton,

I have received the full plans of the Gwent Bach Society sent by P Maureen Firth (season '88-'89).

I find it wonderful and I wish I could attend one of these beautiful concerts. Alas, I am busier than ever with my solo career extending all the time in every direction. For instance on the 19th of March I have a recital pencilled somewhere in England which I am not even sure to be able to give because of my birthday concert on the 21st of March in London (R.F.H.) with the R.P.O. - a big big occasion with my son Yan Pascal and Rostropovich conducting each one half of the concert and my Valse "Allemand" going to be played by Hava and myself at the end! Such an event needs rehearsels as you can imagine. (2 concertos I have to play: St Saens and Elgar).

Sorry to speak so much about myself instead of concentrating on your Bach. Handel. Liszt. Kodaly season.

Please find here all my best wishes for the warmest success all the way through.

Sincerely yours

Paul Tortelier
